I don't usually recommend upgrading to Lion unless you really want the iCloud integration, since Lion is not a very fast or stable system. I have taken to calling it "Apple's Windows Vista". Though if Apple drops support for Snow Leopard but still keeps it for Lion you might want to upgrade. On the other hand at that point it might be worth investing in a new or a newer used computer.

Your computer can handle up to 4 GB or RAM which might be a good idea whether or not you upgrade to Lion. Amazon has it for $56. http://www.amazon.com/gp/pr...

Re: How old a Mac is too old?

Is the white MacBook (2008) obsolete? I'm currently running Snow Leopard, although it can handle Lion but I need to upgrade my RAM first!

Re: Garage Band is a hard drive hog

I don't do any audio editing myself but I know that Audacity is rather popular. http://audacity.sourceforge...

Re: Garage Band is a hard drive hog

Is there a light weight alternative. For example I have used garage band to record records on my mac by reversing the head phone jack to receive. Than I work to make the record sound clear, crisp and de-crackle if necessary. Do you have an alternate solution on a Mac for this functionality, so that I could save some space and do what I need, which is not close to using a tenth of garage bands full functionality?

Re: How to use Mac OS X’s text substitution

Not sure. Disable and re-enable iMessages on your iPhone, then disable and re-enable on your other device. Also make sure that your iPhone is configured to use your Apple ID for iMessages, which I added instructions for in the "Prerequisites" section.

Re: Turn your MacBook into an external iPhone battery

If there is a way I haven't heard it. It appears that things have settled down again so it's probably time to revise this article with current information. In the meantime, make sure that your iPhone is configured to use your Apple ID under the Settings app, and then try disabling and reenabling iMessages on your Mac or iPad.

Re: Using your phone number for iMessages & FaceTime on Mountain Lion & iPad

Doesn't work. Once shared anyone can edit the list from any device, but the process of initiating the share itself is what you need to go through the web for.
